From Johnson & Johnson’s latest robotics acquisition to NuVasive’s acquisition of an emerging spine technology, here are six medtech deals that caught the eye of readers in 2021.
1. Smith+Nephew acquired Integra LifeSciences’ extremity orthopedics business for $240 million in January. The deal strengthens Smith+Nephew’s orthopedic line and includes a shoulder replacement system expected to launch in 2022.
2. NuVasive acquired Simplify Medical for more than $150 million in February. Simplify’s artificial disc for cervical disc replacement was included in the deal and has since been approved by the FDA for two-level procedures.
